Lifeline Humanitarian Organization and The Bodossaki Foundation Collaboration Announcement

Lifeline Hellas Humanitarian Organization and the Bodossaki Foundation of Greece are announcing their collaboration to support unaccompanied refugee children in need of a safe home.

More than 1,012,000 people have reached Greece since the beginning of 2015. Among these are thousands of children and teenagers who arrive alone – officially referred to as unaccompanied minors.

In the first three months of 2016 alone, 1,328 children have been registered by the Greek authorities as unaccompanied. At the moment more than 390 of these children are without a shelter. They are the most vulnerable group of migrants and refugees arriving in Europe. Many have lost their parents during the journey, others are sent off in order to flee war, poverty or persecution. They are all in search of a better future.

The issue at stake is whether the necessary support and protection will be offered to these children in order to ensure their safety, or whether they will be condemned to an unsafe journey travelling alone at the hands of smugglers and traffickers through the Balkans, into central Europe and beyond.

Lifeline Hellas and the Bodossaki Foundation are joining their efforts to provide necessary critical support services for the safety and wellbeing of unaccompanied refugee children. These services include:

  • Food
  • Shelter
  • Medical provision
  • Psychosocial support
  • Legal support (family reunification procedures)
  • Guardianship services

For these services to be secured and delivered, the Bodossaki Foundation has set up an Unaccompanied Refugee Children’s Fund under its Philanthropy Centre “Giving for Greece”, and has partnered with the most effective and experienced NGOs such as: Arsis, Medical Intervention (Medin), METAction, Medecins du Monde – Greek Delegation, Praksis.

We are now reaching out to you, your friends and everyone who would like to help and is not sure about how to reach out. With your help, we will be able to protect, support and lead unaccompanied refugee children to a safe home. It will also help us to continue our efforts of the unification of the children with their families, when this is possible.
