18 Oct 2021
Dr. Jeffrey B. Rich, former President of the American Association for Thoracic Surgery (AATS) and Society of Thoracic Surgery (STS) from the United States, one of the leading experts in the field of cardiothoracic surgery, visited Serbia and, by the initiative and with support of HRH Crown Princess Katherine, had multiple meetings with Serbian doctors, to exchange knowledge, ideas, and experience.
Dr. Jeffrey Rich and his wife, Mrs. Mira Rich, were greeted by Their Royal Highnesses, Crown Prince Alexander and Crown Princess Katherine in the Royal Palace on 13 October 2021, and Her Highness took this great opportunity to connect Dr. Rich with Serbian doctors and organize joint meetings.
At Crown Princess’ initiative, the first encounter was held on the following day, Thursday, 14 October, at the Faculty of Medicine of the Belgrade University, hosted by Professor Lazar Davidović, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Past President of the European Society of Cardiovascular Surgery, and with the great support of Professor Arsen Ristić, Head of Heart Failure Ward and Assistant Director of the Department of Cardiology of the University Clinical Center of Serbia and Board Member of Heart Failure Association of the European Society of Cardiology. On this occasion, leading Serbian cardiology experts had the opportunity to discuss and exchange professional experiences with Dr. Rich. They also discussed the possibility for a lecture to be held during his next visit to Serbia.
On the next day, Friday, 15 October, an additional gathering was organized at the Faculty of Medicine of the University in Nis, where Dr. Rich was greeted by Professor Dobrila Stankovic Djordjevic, the Dean of the Faculty, and more than 20 cardiology experts. This meeting was organized with great support and efforts of Professor Dragan Milic, Vice Dean of the Faculty for Medicine in Nis and Director of Clinic for Cardiovascular and transplant surgery. Dr. Rich had a very productive discussion with cardiology experts from Nis Clinical Centre.
The doctors on both gatherings were exceptionally grateful to HRH Crown Princess Katherine for the opportunity to meet Dr. Rich and explore options for future cooperation.
“I am very happy that Dr. Rich is in Serbia and that he accepted to meet with our professors. I believe that this opportunity for our doctors, to meet our dear guest and to create a new friendship, will bring great results for our healthcare soon! It is very important for our medical experts to have connections with their colleagues from all over the world. My Foundation and I have been focusing our activities for many years now on developing inter-expert cooperation and creating an opportunity for our doctors to exchange experiences with their colleagues; to create and to improve professional relations, but also to make friendships. Creating this network of knowledge improves the quality of our healthcare, and it brings much good for the people of Serbia”, stated HRH Crown Princess Katherine.
The visit of Dr. Rich to Serbia was organized with the great support of Mrs. Rose Glamoclija, a member of the Royal Nurses Board and Dr. Rich’s sister-in-law, which is under the Patronage of HRH Crown Princess Katherine.
