ROYAL COUPLE OPENS 8th SERBIAN DIASPORA MEDICAL CONFERENCE

Belgrade, 22 June 2017 – Their Royal Highnesses Crown Prince Alexander and Crown Princess Katherine officially opened the 8th Serbian Diaspora Medical Conference at the Hyatt Hotel in Belgrade.

The three-day Conference is being held under the auspices of their Royal Highnesses Crown Prince Alexander and Crown Princess Katherine, organized by the Foundation of HRH Crown Princess Katherine and Lifeline Humanitarian Organization, with the support of the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Medical Chamber of Serbia, University of Belgrade Faculty of Medicine and the World Health Organization.

HRH Crown Prince Alexander greeted all present and thanked them for a great help and support to the traditional conference organized by Crown Princess Katherine and her Foundation. The official opening was attended by Dr. Meho Mahmutovic, State Secretary of the Serbian Ministry of Health, Dr. Zsofia Pusztai, Director of the World Health Organization in Serbia, Dr. Milan Dinic, director of the Medical Chamber of Serbia, Prof. Dr. Nebojsa Lalic, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Mrs. Nikolina Milatovic Popovic, director of the Office for Cooperation with the Diaspora and Serbs in the region, representatives of Lifeline Humanitarian Organization medical teams from the United States and Canada, members of the Royal Medical Board, as well as numerous lecturers and participants from Serbia and abroad.

In her address, HRH Crown Princess Katherine said: “It is a great pleasure to greet all our doctors and dear guests from abroad. This eighth Conference is very important as a bridge that transfers knowledge and experience from the Diaspora to Serbia. I want to thank our partners who wholeheartedly help the organization every year - the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Office for Diaspora, the Medical Chamber of Serbia, the University of Belgrade Faculty of Medicine, the Royal Medical Board, the Mayo Clinic and my Foundation. Without your help and support, this would not be possible. I hope that you will be able to share the experience you gained with your colleagues, to the benefit of patients. I wish you successful work at the Conference and I am happy to announce the next Conference for 13-15 June 2018”.

The guests were also addressed by Dr. Meho Mahmutovic, State Secretary of the Serbian Ministry of Health, Dr. Milan Dinic, director of the Medical Chamber of Serbia, Prof. Dr. Nebojsa Lalic, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Dr. Zsofia Pusztai, director of the World Health Organization in Serbia and Prof. Ida Jovanovic, chief of Cardiology at University Children's Clinic in Tirsova.

The eighth "Serbian Diaspora Medical Conference" covers a wide range of fields of medicine, focusing on diabetes, haematology, gynaecology, surgery, psychiatry, cardiology, and genetics. The lecturers and moderators are the most prominent medical experts from Serbia and abroad.

The goal of the Conference, which has been held for years, is to improve the cooperation between our doctors and experts in the field of medical science from the Diaspora with institutions and individuals that represent the pillars of quality of healthcare in Serbia, as well as networking the experts in the field of health care in the Republic of Serbia with the Serbian academic community in the diaspora.
